Personal Reasons Personalised

I love doing mixes, makes me check my records, makes me listen to the track in full with out the constant need to flick through, something I’m extremely bad at. Makes me dig and research about artists, buy new records and share my love of music.
But above all these things I love the most is meeting and becoming friends with like minded musical people. No more so when they send you a lovely gift like what I received this week from not one but two fantastic fellas. I salute you Colin Wildcat and Delasy Studio8. Little back story here on a past post

This is what I got 🙂
A super personal 12″ of Wildcat Personal Reasons from 1991 and straight off the press brand spanking new DVD music video of Personal Reason Vol 5 from the Wildcat Studios.

The back of the DVD features this inspiring line.

“Music is my soul, the rhythm of life inspires me”
This is my “Personal Reason” for doing the work I love and loving the work I do

What a great quote. plus check out the message on the twelve inch.
Yep I was very happy receiving this, what a great day.

The Soul Just Drives Me Crazy Part 7

The Soul Just Drives Me Crazy Part 7

Here’s number seven already. On a roll with them at the moment. Keep pulling out a tune and then remember another then that leads on to more and so on. So had a folder with this one already filled up and ready and raring to go.
Plus it was good to try out a new piece of software I had just installed. See the post before this one (Reaper) if your interested.

Some real gems on this edition from the blinding smasher from Martine Girault with Opaz hitting all the right buttons. Right through to that super mellow closer from The Valentine Brothers with Starship.

I hope to write some info on all the tracks at some point when I can so it might be worth checking back in.

Reaper Digital Audio Workstation Software

Reaper DAW

On having music software issues with my old Sony Acid Pro 6 I had noticed it wasn’t working very well on my new computer which has Windows 8.
Kept hearing little glitches in my mixes, like the needle was jumping. It was slight but I kept noticing it. I hope it hasn’t been to much of a problem for anyone listening to my mixes.

I’m guessing it’s a compatibility issue. Searching round for a new Digital Audio Workstation Multitrack program I came across this one from Reaper.
Have to admit to never hearing of them before.
Having got so used to Acid Pro I was very hesitant on trying another program. Really can’t be arsed to go through the whole learning curve again plus some of the bigger named DAW programs are very pricey.
Downloaded the evaluation version and have fallen in love with it. Does everything I need it to, looks beautiful, simple and well organised layout and most of all no real learning curve from Acid Pro to this. Yep I’m a very happy man. really thought i was in for a right chore changing over.

Seems like Reaper have a great business too offering a great product at a fair price. With a discounted price of under £40. Plus if you want to dig deeper and open the program up there is a Resource page to change themes, add plugin, FXs, Midi drum maps. Also a forum to ask questions and get advice.

I know it’s early days, only one mix down, but fingers crossed it will serve me well.
Soul Crazy Part 7 was done on it.

Spiderman’s Boss gets Whiplash

New film coming soon starring J K Simmons playing a hard as nails jazz conductor Terence Fletcher who pushes everything to the limit to get the best performances out of his young school jazz band. How far can you be pushed to realise your potential talent before you break.

This Jazz music drama is written and directed by Damien Chazelle and also stars Miles Teller as the young drummer of the story Andrew Neyman.

Trailer looks great and it’s getting a lot of buzz from critics. Really looking forward to watching it when it hits the UK.

Mike Myers And The Supermensch plus WTF

Capitalist, protector, hedonist, pioneer, showman, shaman . . . SUPERMENSCH.

Supermensch: The Legend of Shep Gordon

Really loking forward to this documentary from Austin Powers himself Mike Myers. He directs the film along side Beth Aala which looks at the life and career of an American film and talent agent called Shep Gordon.

Looking at the trailer it’s going to be a fun ride.

Shep Gordon is the consummate Hollywood insider. Though he isn’t a household name, Gordon has become a beacon in the industry, beloved by the countless stars he has encountered throughout his storied career. Shep is known for managing the careers of Alice Cooper as well as stints with Blondie, Luther Vandross and Raquel Welch, among others — a career that began with a chance encounter in 1968 with Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix. He even found time to invent the “Celebrity Chef.” Though the chef as star is part of the culture now, it took Shep’s imagination, and his moral outrage at how the chefs were being treated, to monetize the culinary arts into the multi-billion dollar industry it is today. Personal friends with the Dalai Lama through his philanthropic endeavors with the Tibet Fund and the guardian of four children, Gordon’s unlikely story will be told by those who know him best, his pals, including Alice Cooper, Michael Douglas, Sylvester Stallone, Anne Murray, Willie Nelson, Emeril Lagasse and more.

For further entertainment Marc Maron interviews Mike Myers on his WTF Podcast.
Really nice hour of Myers stories ending with chat about the Supermensch film.
Recommended listen. Episode 518 Mike Myers

With Julie Roberts super cover of Ain’t You Had Enough Love, Jane Eugene featuring on aVal Watson tune and Sweetback’s almighty tune You Will Rise with the Cottonbelly Remix which is so influenced by Loose Ends.
